

Following the conclusion of the album's promotional tour in May 2014, the band went on an "extended hiatus". Squeezy (2011), was a stylistic departure for the band and received a negative response from the band's fanbase. Following their departure from Interscope in 2009, Dredg independently released The Pariah, the Parrot, the Delusion, which saw the band reach their highest charting positions yet. The band experienced mainstream success with Catch Without Arms (2005), which became the band's first album to chart in the United States, and the band received exposure on MTV with the single "Bug Eyes". Dredg's major label debut, El Cielo (2002), was lauded by critics and helped establish a wider cult following for the band. Originally starting out as an alternative metal outfit, Dredg established themselves in the indie scene with their debut album Leitmotif (1999), which showed the band stylistically moving into progressive rock and art rock the album's success landed them a deal with Interscope Records in 2001, who re-released the album later in the year. The band's lineup consists of vocalist Gavin Hayes, guitarist Mark Engles, bassist Drew Roulette and drummer and pianist Dino Campanella.

Dredg’s unique sound makes it difficult to pair them up with other bands, but Hayes feels bands like Circa Survive and the other bands they are playing with on this tour have a similar sound and similar values when it comes to music.ĭredg is touring with Circa Survive and is also playing shows in between this tour with Animals as Leaders and Code Seven.įans of alternative rock or concept bands will not want to miss Dredg this week on Friday, Nov. Hayes admits that when writing a new record he usually writes all of the lyrics before the music, but this album was a little different. I think that is part of the reason the record sounds different as well.”

“But a lot of it was just streaming music on email. I would fly down every once in a while and we would work on the songs as a band,” Hayes said. Since the rest of the members of Dredg were living in California while Hayes was living in Seattle, this album wasn’t even conceived the traditional way of the band getting together to work on the songs as a whole. The band is currently working on the artwork that will be with the album. “I think the concept is going to be more based on the artwork than actual songs,” Hayes said. Dredg has even thrown the idea around of creating characters with this new album. The new album will put a lot of focus on the artwork in order to pull it all together. For example their most recent album The Pariah, the Parrot, the Delusion, released in 2009, was inspired by the essay Imagine There Is No Heaven: A Letter to the Six Billionth Citizen by Salman Rushdie. Various forms of art and literature have influenced all previous Dredg albums. “It felt like the timing was right, where we are at in our career and I’m really happy with it actually.” “We figured this is our fifth record, we’ve been around forever and wanted to do something different,” Dredg singer Gavin Hayes said.
